The Fine Print: A Waterproof Floor Is Not a Waterproof House
This is the part the box never mentions. When a supply line lets go or the water heater quits, a waterproof floor protects itself — but water still finds the seams, the perimeter, and the floor vents, and ends up on the subfloor below. That plywood or OSB is wood, and it needs to be dried out (sometimes by lifting the flooring) before mold gets a vote. The floor survives; the cleanup still has to happen promptly. What a waterproof floor buys you is time and a floor you don't have to replace afterward — with laminate or hardwood, the same event usually totals the floor itself too.
